Benchmarking
A benchmark is a standard by which something can be judged. Applying this to computers, a benchmark is a numerical value assigned to your computer to represent its performance in accomplishing various tests.
The better your computer performs, the better your numerical score. You can then compare your score with the scores of other computers, which of course gives you an idea of how well your computer is performing.
An easy way to benchmark your PC is through benchmarking software such as listed below. Such software will put your PC through its paces and provide a numerical score, often also providing results from other PC's for comparison.
If your computer is scoring badly, there are likely some changes you can make to improve - see FreewareVista sections on Malware, Defragmentation, Registry, Diagnostic, Internet Speed, Clean Up, and Spyware.
