How to locate Program Files

Let's say you install 'Super Duper Firewall', a program folder is created containing the main executable file (the '.exe' file), the DLL files, the Uninstaller file, plus other components needed by 'Super Duper Firewall'. Unless you chose to install it elsewhere, this folder is usually found at C:\Program Files

Knowing where program files are can be handy - it can happen that an installing program does not place an icon on your desktop or in the start menu, the way to start the program in such a case is to navigate to the program file, find the main 'exe' file (the executable) and double click to start.

As a note, even though a program has been uninstalled, its program file can often still be found in 'Program Files'.
Get to Program Files as follows:

Windows XP:

1 click on 'My Computer'
2 double click on your main disk drive, usually 'C:'
3 double click to open the folder labelled 'Program Files'.
As a note, even though a file has been uninstalled, the program file usually can still be found in 'Program Files'.

Windows Vista:

1 click on the Start Menu icon
2 select 'Computer'
3 double click on your main disk drive, usually 'C:'
4 double click to open the folder labelled 'Program Files'
