How to Enable or Disable Transparency in the Windows Aero Interface

New with the Windows Aero interface is window transparency - this feature creates translucent window frames allowing a user to perceive beyond the foremost window. Aside from the futuristic feel, transparency provides a sense of additional desktop space and a practical ability to see more desktop content.

Newer systems run the Aero interface, including transparency, in stride, though on older systems upgraded to Vista you may prefer to limit resource usage. In such instances or if a matter of simple preference, the transparency feature can be turned off:

1 right click on the desktop
2 click 'Personalize'
3 click 'Window Color and Appearance'
4 click to remove the check mark by 'Enable Transparency'
5 click OK
